SVR Concours 2025:
“If You Can Wash It, You Can Show It”
By Kirk Bradford
On June 8th, 2025, SVR conducted its annual Zone 7 Concours d’ Elegance at Porsche Sacramento. This was the second time the Concours has been held at Porsche Sacramento, and the event was truly “better than ever”. A special thanks goes to sales manager Andrey Protsyuk and service manager Larry Rueter for making so many accommodations for us. Not only was the service department emptied of cars, but the “cars for sale” lot was emptied too!
The Concours team arrived early to set things up and to be there in time to direct concours entrant early arrivals to their spots for judged cars. And a big thank you to Roy and Robin Schauben, our Zone 7 Concours co-chairs for checking in all of the entrants and setting up all of the scoring sheets; they do this at every Zone 7 Concours!
The official Concours judging began around 9:30AM, after judging teams had been set up and assigned. New for this year was a judged Outlaw class. Cars entered in the Outlaw class were judged by a special judging team. Because Outlaw cars are usually heavily modified, they are not included in a traditional Concours. So, this was a great opportunity for these cars to show their stuff.
Also new for this year, SVR’s very own Porschettes gathered at the event in order to select a special “Porschettes Choice” winner among all of the cars entered in the concours, including cars in the Outlaw class. The group, guided by Gail Hawk and Susan Green, had the daunting task of considering over 50 cars in order to come up with their “Porschettes Choice” winner.
Another new dimension for this year’s competition was the inclusion of PCA Juniors. After reaching out to all the PCA Juniors parents, we were able to enlist seven enthusiastic juniors to judge cars. With the help of Steve, Kim & Allie Long, all details were addressed, including the assembly of special goodie bags for the juniors. Five cars were selected to be judged with the approval of the owners of the cars.
Judging was quite intense for all judging teams, and after their efforts, judging sheets were submitted for final scoring tabulations. While everyone was waiting for the award ceremony to begin, many enjoyed an awesome lunch provided by The Taco Bar; Luis and Cristal prepared a fantastic spread.
The program got underway, with awards starting with “Porschettes’ Choice”. The Porschettes came up front and announced the winner, a cool 1963 356B coupe. The owner, Joel Jensen, presented the car with a period-correct rally motif which won the hearts of the Porschettes.
Next up in the program was the PCA Juniors presentation. All the Juniors were brought up and recognized with applause from the group. They were presented with goodie bags, including Porsche flags which were a big hit with the kids. Each Junior also received a special recognition certificate in appreciation of their participation in our event.
As has been experienced at national PCA events, the Juniors were quite entertaining to watch as they judged the cars. Listening to the Juniors’ comments, we adults had no idea which car they would select to receive the “Juniors’ Choice” award. As it turned out the Juniors selected a beautiful 2023 Cayman GT4 as their pick, entered by Joy Nieslony from SVR.
Awards for the main event, the Zone 7 Concours was held next. There were many great cars that scored well, with two cars receiving perfect scores. The cars receiving the perfect scores were a gray 1963 356 owned and prepared by Jack Banville and a blue 1970 911T owned and prepared by Tim Wilson. The full results list is available on the Zone 7 website. Here is a link to the results: https://zone7.pca.org/wp-content/uploads/Concours-2025-Scores-Concours-1.xlsx
It was no coincidence that many of the participants and volunteer judges were graduates from our recent Concours Judging and Detailing class, held in May. A big thank you to those who volunteered to help out with the judging.
resting collection of cars this year was the Outlaws. Most certainly, it was a diverse group of cars. The number of cars entered in the class exceeded expectations. In third place was Adrian Ayson’s 1995 993; in second place was Mike Whittle with his over-the-top 1972 911T; and in first place was John Moore and his 1974 911 Slope-nose. Kudos to all who entered their outlaw cars!
The final awards of the day were the Porsche of Sacrament Dealer’s Choice award, and the Hagerty Award. The Hagerty Award went to Joel Jensen and his 1963 356B. The Dealer’s Choice Award went to Adria Ayson and his 1995 993.
A special thank you needs to go out to the Concours Committee members, Al Price, Kim Nelson, Tom Tyer, Jim McMahen, Bob Murray, Bruce Brinka and Ken Montes for all the planning and effort put into the event. And thanks to Dick Macfarlane for the use of his PA system so that we all could hear better. And last, but not least, thank you to all the volunteers, without whom the event would not have been the success it was.
