On a sunny but chilly Sunday morning on January 11th, more than 400 cars gathered in the north parking lot of the Palladio Shopping Center to show off their pride and joy and to socialize with likeminded enthusiasts. I arrived around 10:15am and was greeted by SVR member, Kim Nelson, who directed me to the Porsche parking area. I would estimate that since this event was organized by our two local Porsche dealerships that at least 60% of the cars on display were Porsches. However, the event was open to all makes and models and there was also a contingent of super cars of the likes of McClaren, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, and Ferrari along with BMW’s, a few Mercedes, and the usual contingent of American made muscle cars. I was absolutely floored by the participation as the event was publicized by SVR just a week prior to the event. Event sponsors mentioned in the flier included Porsche Rocklin, Porsche Sacramento, Sacramento Valley Region, Throttle Therapy, Elite Auto Works, 356 Car, and C4SHOOTZ.

There was a cool vibe about the gathering. Different from the atmosphere you might find at a PCA concours or regional club cars and coffee. The crowd was much younger as I also observed attendees with young children in tow as well as a few Gen Z’ers videotaping the event for posts to their Instagram accounts. I ran into at least a dozen SVR members including, Joy and Steve Nieslony, Matt Deter, Bob Peake, Dave and Mary Borden, David Turner, Nate Martin, Stefan Hepper, Nick Majetich, EJ and Susan Fontaine, club president John Leet, Ed Parra, Jon and Janet Kramer, Matt and Lisa Menning, Tim Wilson and Kim and Rachel Nelson. I received similar comments on the event from all that the turnout was amazing, and that the venue was perfect for so many cars. The event is something that we can build on to promote the club and to attract younger members.
