The 2025 autocross series was a tremendous success with one additional event and 488 drivers who registered for the events. Not including our last event of the season at the Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland, registered drivers totaled 431 drivers slightly down from a comparable 2024 event schedule with 8 events. Again, the annual autocross school, now in its 17th year, was another consecutive sellout.

This year’s award recipients received their awards and accolades at a small awards luncheon with 26 recipients in attendance at Casa Ramos Restaurant in Roseville. There was a total of 18 awards given out, 14 for class awards, 2 for top PAX scores and 1 for the rookie of the year. Class awards were awarded to the top 3 finishers in each class.
The 3 top awards went to Grady Carter, Men’s PAX Champion, Joy Nieslony, Ladies Pax Champion, and David Gutierrez, Rookie of the Year. The PAX award is based on a handicapping system which takes into consideration whether the car is totally as it was delivered from the factory and any modifications from stock that were done to the car.

The rookie of the year is selected by the autocross team as a novice member who exemplified the spirit of the sport, demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm throughout the season, demonstrated consistent improvement, and participated in at least 5 events. David participated in every event this season and competed in 6 out of the 9 events in P-05 class. He drove his 2018 Porsche Turbo S.
Both Joy Nieslony and Grady Carter are perennial participants in the series with Grady notching his second PAX award and Class award in P-03. This was Joy’s first PAX championship in the ladies’ division and not her last.
Awards were given to the top 3 finishers in each class who participated in a minimum of 50% of our scheduled events. The following is the list of the class award recipients:

The winners of this season’s AX series awards were all extremely competent drivers with well-prepared cars, and all were focused on getting their best times no matter if it was the first or last run of the day. Congratulations to all the award recipients.
In other news, the autocross team for 2026 will reflect a change in leadership with Michael Klein taking the reins as chair and Kent Lagendorff as co-chair. Thank you for stepping up to lead the 2026 autocross program.
A huge thank you is for several long-term stalwarts of the autocross program who have decided to step down and hand the reins of the program over to a new team. A big thank you to Kent Treiber, course designer, Steve Nieslony, course setup, Weyland Fat, Tech, Collin Fat, AX Administrator and Matt Deter, autocross co-registrar. Greg Zajic will stay on as a coach for Michael Klein and Joy Nieslony will manage the position of registrar for yet another season.
The preliminary 2026 season has been drafted with most dates are subject to change pending contract signing with Thunderhill Raceway as well as coordination of dates for the two Zone 7 weekend co-hosted with Redwood Region.
