Member Spotlight: Mike Willis

Mike recently celebrated 50 years in PCA (and SVR) having joined the club in late 1974.

Mike took charge of the DRIFTER on a ‘temporary basis’ (according to President Steve Barker) in 2020 and spearheaded the change to a web-based only publication that year. No more fitting and sizing to make it work to the physical constraints associated with printing. Six and ½ years later, Mike is moving on.

But Mike had a lot of experience with the DRIFTER back in the days when it was printed and snail-mailed to all SVR members. Mike was editor:

  • 1995 thru 1998
  • 10 issues in 2000
  • Design editor from 2016 thru 2019 (for Steve McCrory and then Matt Menning)

In addition, Mike has been:

  • Chair of the semi-annual San Simeon Tour for decades (handled this year by Collin Fat)
  • Co-chair of the annual Mendocino Tour with Rik Larson
  • Held numerous SVR board positions including
    • President; 1991, 1992, 2007, 2008
  • CRAB Chair
    • 1979 – CRAB 8
    • 1985 – CRAB 14
    • 1997 – CRAB 25
    • 2002 – CRAB 29

Mike was inducted to the Zone 7 Wall of Fame in 2006.

And at last year’s charity auction conducted by Kelley Murphy (and crew) he promoted the ‘matching’ donation concept for the bidding on a special bicycle (donated by the Stark’s) for the benefit of veterans.

And if you want to become a welcome friend of Mike’s, just call him ‘Chilli’.
